About the Photographer

Photography is all about the capture of light. For one tiny fraction of a second, all the light that exists in view of the lens is frozen in time. While that may sound easy, the success of that capture depends upon the skill of the photographer to coordinate all of the elements within that view at the second the shutter is open. Finding the right pose and look, lighting this or shading that, determining what to place in sharp focus and what to leave blurry — these are the marks of the professional and are why you pay for the photo.

My work has appeared on Web sites and in magazines. While I have done some work for advertising, my main areas of interest are covering events and doing personal portrait photography. I have worked for sports competitions, banquets, weddings and parties to provide images that are both a record of the event and suitable for promoting the event in subsequent years. I shoot exclusively in RAW format at high resolution, so the images are suitable for any use from Web to print.

Services: Online Profile Package

With more people turning to the Web to find romance, you may find that the typical blurry head shot and self-portrait in the bathroom mirror under flourescent light with your face masked by the camera may not be generating the kind of interest you're looking for.

I will provide a series of images suitable for use in online dating profiles. First, you need a captivating headshot to show a bit of your fun side and get potential dates to click on your profile.

Once they're looking at your profile, you will need a series of a few clothed or sexy photos that flatter your shape and look. We can try a few different outfits and find the right pose to set you apart from the rest.

For those special people that peak your interest, you can unlock your private photos. This series of images will show you at your best, using poses and lighting to show you to maximum advantage.

This package provides both Web-ready and print-ready images for you at a cost of $95 per hour for studio time (typically less than three hours), and the same hourly rate for retouching (typically 15-30 minutes per image). My studio is available for a quiet, private shoot, or I can travel to your own place ($55/hour travel time and setup fee applies; mileage rate may apply depending upon distance).

Services: Personal Portrait Package

For singles and couples, I provide a professional set of portraits to memorialize this moment in time. Examples above include intimate sets for personal use, portraits of your children for keepsakes, or professional portraits for use on your business card.

Services: Commission Package

I am available for commissioned work in most fields. Examples at left are for coverage of a sport competition, cover image for a city councillor's Christmas card, and detail image to accompany a magazine article.

Like all major projects, it starts with meeting for coffee where I will ask a few questions to determine what kind of images you're looking for and what the situation will provide me as the photographer.

With the type of event and the end-use for the images, I will select the camera, lenses and vantage point to best produce what you're looking for. Lighting is the next critical issue, and I provide all my own equipment. I generally use wireless speedlight flash to avoid the mess of cables running all over the place, but have larger and higher powered lighting for large-scale scenes. I have a capacity for radio-triggering the flashes, so I can also place my lighting around corners and on the other sides of walls.

The initial meeting is free; I even buy the coffee. Costs of the shoot will vary considerably depending upon the resources needed. Generally speaking, my time is worth $95/hour for shooting or retouching, and $55/hour for travel and setup time. Mileage rates and assistance charges may apply. Fees for equipment or venue rental will be your direct responsibility.
